Our Story
Exclusion from civic engagement is sustained by forced poverty, racism, and other forms of oppression. As a result, many Coloradans find themselves unable to influence policy that directly impacts their life. Not having access to affordable childcare, or unpredictable work schedules are common reasons why some of our best community leaders cannot engage in the civic process. At The People’s House, we know what it feels like to just survive a normal day in Denver, Colorado. We know what it feels like to have barriers stopping us from leading on issues that impact our lives and how this perpetuates oppression.
The People’s House is a collective firm, owned by former safety benefit program recipients, Medicaid moms, affordable housing tenants, formerly incarcerated individuals, and working parents. We are a bridge for working Coloradans to make an impact on issues that deeply impact their lives because we believe those who have experience facing our biggest social issues are the most qualified stakeholders to design solutions for change.
Instead of resourcing working people to lead their own initiatives, organizations and agencies often engage constituents only when it’s beneficial for their program deliverables and policy priorities. But community informed policy means designing programs and advocacy with a primary objective of community leadership at its core, that is where The People’s House comes in.
We’re experts in organizing our own communities and have worked successfully with organizations, agencies, and lawmakers to improve authentic participation in the policy-making process in Colorado. After years of successful mentorship, passing legislation at the state capital through community-led coalitions, and doing consultative work for multiple non-profits, Kayla Frawley finally decided to register The People’s House LLC in December 2022. Seeing the gap in how the non-profit and the advocacy sector engages the community inspired the firm’s mission, we are continuing to expand as working people join us.
Our framework and consultation extend to any business, organization, or agency looking to create authentic community participation. The People’s House exists as a bridge for anyone looking to create meaningful change.
